Qismat
  • The global agenda has never been so varied, so pressing or so complex. It demands of the international community new approaches, new resources and new commitments of commercial and political will. We cannot wait for governments to do it all.

    Kofi Annan

Former Secretary General of the United Nations

  • There is a clear and present need for rethinking development economics and questioning our prevailing paradigms. We need to pursue unconventional and locally-attuned solutions.

    Robert Zoellick

Former President of the World Bank

  • Research shows that countries which receive foreign aid grow considerably slower that those who don’t. They don’t have to deal with the strings which often come attached with aid and are allowed to grow organically.

    William Easterly

    Former World Bank Economist

  • If we can find approaches that meet the needs of the poor in ways that generate profits for business and votes for politicians, we will have found a sustainable way to reduce inequity in the world. This task is open-ended. It can never be finished. But a conscious effort to answer this challenge will change the world.

    Bill Gates

Former Chairman of Microsoft and Co-Chair
of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

  • I would struggle to find an example of a country whose progress and success were more in Britain's national interest than were those of Pakistan.

    David Cameron

    Former UK Prime Minister

  • The floods in Pakistan is the greatest humanitarian crisis the United Nations has responded to in its 65-year history, with more people affected than the South-East Asian tsunami and the recent earthquakes in Kashmir and Haiti combined.

    Ban Ki Moon

Former Secretary-General of the United Nations

Origin and Ethos

Qismat

The word “Qismat” exists in many languages and cultures, sharing a common meaning of fate, fortune, chance, or even luck.

Better Funding for a Brighter Future

“Better Funding for a Brighter Future” forms the basis of our ethos and the principle on which Qismat Development Fund (QDF) builds on.

We support and implement innovative projects and partnerships. Thus, contributing towards creating and enhancing the capacities of people to help themselves.

In this process Qismat works with the government and the international community. We aim to work primarily with local organisations to support local governance structures. We involve local beneficiaries at all stages of assessment, planning and implementation. This is done in a transparent way, ensuring the highest level of accountability and traceability.

Return on Donation

A donation, like any other contribution of personal resources, can be looked at like an investment. We coined the term “Return On Donation” because we believe that if you can provide citizens with a quantitative as well as qualitative return on their donations, they will inevitably re-invest to sustain this mutually rewarding relationship.

Bionomic Management Philosophy

Biological systems (nature, animals, the human body) are the most efficient systems ever created, thus the Qismat Bionomic Operations & Management Philosophy (economic model based on biological systems) is employed as an organic principle designed for organisation and sustainability. These parallels are evident in the way Qismat Development Fund is organised and works, with the mind of a business enterprise and the heart of development organisation.
