Leveraging the Micro-Donations Platform and Qismat’s ‘Return-on-Donation’ ethos, Qismat aims to raise $8.6 billion and have a positive impact on the lives of 1.4 billion people across 20 nations. The countries highlighted within our Beneficiary Impact are amongst the most in need of economic developmental assistance within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the second largest governing body to the United Nations.
Qismat’s MDP has the greatest impact in countries that have a UN HDI ranking above 100 and a Mobile Penetration Rate of either above 50 per cent or greater than 5 million active mobile subscribers.
Qismat’s development agenda will benefit three spheres of assistance: Humanitarianism (human need – providing immediate response and relief, aid packages and medical goods), Philanthropy (social advancement – long term research and policy implementation) and Development (sustainable economic growth – improving microeconomic factors such as education, unemployment and literacy rates).
Misconceptions
The common misperception is that countries receiving bilateral & multilateral aid will eventually become autonomous and no longer require Official Development Assistance (ODA). The truth is that multilateral and bilateral ODA are always linked to conditionality's which makes organic growth difficult. As an example, 30 years ago Malawi, Burundi and Burkina Faso were economically ahead of China on a per capita income basis.
Why the Muslim Population
- Globally, the Muslim population is forecast to grow at about twice the rate of the Non-Muslim population and will amount to 2.2 billion by 2030
- 7 of next 11 largest economies (excluding BRICS) in the 21st century are Islamic Nations. (Goldman Sachs Next Eleven, N-11)
- 90% of Islamic countries are also considered developing nations. Out of 57 OIC countries, 51 are also G-77 countries.
